| CCS welcomes new chairman |
|
February 2006
![]() Starting as a management trainee with EBC Ltd in Exeter, he then moved to the family business (EJ Kingdon Ltd) where he became Managing Director in 1978. He has been an enthusiastic participant in many industry-related groups, including the CIOB, and particularly enjoyed his year as president of Devon Association of the NFB. Peter has also undertaken a number of chairmanships, including the Devon Construction Industry Training Association, highlighting his own commitment to youth and the future of the industry.
Commenting on his new role within the Scheme, Peter says: “This is a great challenge and one I am looking forward to enormously. Initially Doug Goodsir and then David Hardy have taken the Scheme from a promising idea to an extraordinary national success. The task now must be to build on this success and take the concept forward into the future.
This is an exciting time for the Scheme. With the recent launch of the Scheme in Belfast, and the registration of our 15000th site, there can be no doubt that the Scheme continues to go from strength to strength. Just ahead of us we see the commencement of our first training seminars, and the increase in the numbers of Scheme Associate Members. With both these initiatives we increase the interaction between the Scheme and the industry. 2006 will also see the biggest Annual Awards to date, underlining the continuing enthusiasm of the industry to achieve truly high standards of considerate construction. The industry’s strong support for the Scheme lies behind its success and is a clear indication that there is a genuine desire to improve performance. Increasingly, the Considerate Constructors Scheme is becoming the voice of modern construction, reflecting both its current status and its future aspirations. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that this voice continues to be heard, and to keep the Scheme moving forward to improve the image of construction” |
